East Melbourne's favourite bottleshop, cafe and grocery store. Conveniently catering for all your everyday essentials and stocking an extensive range of specialty goods. Here you can find everything for life's emergencies as well as those last minute gifts and treats.

For over 150 years, the site of East Melbourne General Store has been servicing its local community. It was first built as The Emerson Dairy in 1862. Mrs. Emerson lived out back and later added groceries to trade until 1910. This Hotham St corner store has remained a family run grocery store ever since, loosing its original bluestone building to the current structure in 1978. Since then not much has changed. We're still selling 70's style iced donuts, hot pies and milkshakes with an 'old school' level of service and kindness.
We stock locally produced and ecologically friendly products, with a range of deluxe imported gift lines and gourmet produce, specialty bottleshop and fruit and vegetables.

The East Melbourne General Store is one of Melbourne's last remaining Milk Bars and a great place to see if visiting East Melbourne or new to the neighbourhood. Come and meet the locals, catch up on community news or lounge around with a coffee out front.
